History: Born as the illegitimate child of the clan head, Kuroba grew up alone and isolated, despite being allowed to live at the clan compound after her mothers death during childbirth. With most other clan members simply ignoring her existence and her step-mother Asagao only tolerating her in the house, Kuroba ended up focusing all of her love and attention on her younger half-brother Shion after he was born. She completely adored him and in the first weeks he was born she was never more than a few feet away from him. When he got older Kuroba's behavior didn't change much, only that Shion clung just as much to her as she did to him, which lead to her starting to train to become his future bodyguard.
She was a talented and highly motivated girl, quickly displaying a gift for puppetry (something she had used for years to entertain Shion). Since no one else in her clan used such a technique, she mostly trained herself, when she was wasn't sparing with one of the older clan members or learning the tricks of the trade from her father's bodyguards.

When she was twelve the tension between her clan and a nearby village, which had run high since the last war, finally escalated into violence after the outbreak of a disease that was said to be the making of the Kohara clan. Although having little to no training, the towns people had strength in numbers, which was more than enough to overpower the already small number of clan members. Most of the clan died fighting, but some of them, seeing that this was a battle they couldn't win, tried to escape. Asagao was one of the few that actually managed to escape the compound, mostly because she ran as soon as she saw the villagers try and get to her son who was playing outside of the clan territory and accompanied only by Kuroba. After a desperate search she finally found them at a nearby river with Shion still playing, but his sister was on alert having sensed that something was wrong. Having already overheard her followers and realizing that there was no chance that all three of them could escape, she told Kuroba to take Shion and escape as fast as she could. Understanding what her step-mother was trying to do for them, Kuroba didn't try to protest her sacrifice but grabbed her brother and did as she was told.

In the following months Kuroba mostly relied on her training to earn some money as mercenary, while Shion either stayed by himself or worked some small jobs in the town they were currently staying in.

One day a man approached them, saying that he needed help to find the ingredients to cure his wife's ailment. Both promised to help, especially after hearing the payment they would get for it. But at the end of the day, when they still hadn't found the mysterious plant they were looking for, the man offered to let them stay at his house in a guest bedroom and continue the search the following morning. Exhausted, the siblings agreed very gratefully.

In the night Kuroba suddenly woke up and found herself alone in the room with Shion missing. Quickly she gathered her weapons and her puppet and went searching for her brother. She finally found him, unconscious on a table, while the man they stayed with was drawing a seal on his back. Without thinking she attacked the man to try and stop him, but it was already to late as the seal was complete.

Kuroba demanded to know, what he had done, to which he explained that Shion with his family's kekkei genkai could save his town from a spreading disease, one that was allegedly spread by an insane Kohara, which made it only fair that Shion would be used to cure it. The seals would allow the man to control Shions will and mind, making him to a puppet, since he knew, that he would never agree to pay the price out of his free will.

Enraged Kuroba attacked and in the end managed to kill him with her puppet, but when she tried to wake up her brother she realized in horror, that the man's words were true and Shion, although awake, was no more than a living shell of a human. There was no recognition, no personality, and no life in his eyes. Panicked, Kuroba tried to wash the ink off and later in her desperation even tried to scratch it off, but to no avail. Her brothers mind was sealed away and she had possibly killed the only man that knew how to undo it.

From that day on she no longer wandered the world to find a new home, but traveled the elemental countries in search for a Fuinjutsu master skilled enough to save her brother.

Kekkei Genkai: It allows the user to create diseases after their own design and to form something akin to a symbiosis with those diseases to 'store' them in their own bodies. That also gives the user control over them, which can be used to either infect or cure others. There is a maximum number of diseases one person can form a symbiosis with, since it takes its toll on the immune system making it every time more likely that the user won't form a partnership after intentionally infecting themself, but instead will die from the disease, something that is always a risk, but usually never higher that five percent. A side effect of the kekkei genkai is the inheried immunity againt not only the clans own diseases, but also against basically everything form outside the clan.
The only way a clan member can fall ill and actually die from some illness is if they absorb a large amout of some disease that they have no symbiosis with. In some rare cases such an event can lead to a symbiosis, since it follows the same principle of infecting yourself and hoping for the best, but usually it simply kills the person, because usually the amount is to large for the immune system to handle.
In the instance that the kekkei genkai is sealed, which was a usual practice for everyone not born in the main family, the user can still from a symbiosis with an already existing disease created by the clan and also control it, but can't create diseases themself. The inheriet immunitly against illnesses would also not be affected by the seal

Clan Trivia
- When the actual Kohara clan still existed, the branch familes were falsly told that the kekkei genkai was recessive as an explaination as to why only the members born in the main family were able to use the kekkei genkai to its full extend, while the branch family members were only able to use, but not create the diseases. But the true reason was that everyone not born in the main family was sealed without their knowledge in an attempt to keep the bloodline from mixing with outsiders and also as a way for the main house to keep itself in power
- But that truth about the sealing was lost after an uprising of the branch families against the main house that ended in the death of every last member of the main house and the subsequent scattering of the clan in smaller groups and families
- Because of that wrong belief Kuroba also wasn't allowed to try to form a symbiosis with one of the clan's diseases when she was a child, since her father feared that the chances of her survival were too slim to take the risk, since the branch families were also told that children with mixed blood had little to no chances at survival
